Competition Rules
1. All students from Malaysian universities and colleges shall participate in this competition. Each group shall contain maximum of 10 participants only.
2. Each and every groups shall perform a stage drama based on the Tamil literature stories given in Annexure 1. If a group decides to choose a literature story that is not given in the said Annexure, then they must contact and obtain prior approval from the Program Organizers. Take notice that the groups that participated in the Naadagachudar organized in previous years must NOT perform a drama on the SAME story again. Otherwise, it will be unfair and prejudicial to the new participating groups. Attention: A particular literature story is strictly not allowed to be performed by more than one group. The group that registers its name for the competition earlier shall be given prior right over the story chosen.
3. Each and every groups will be given only 30 minutes to complete their respective performances. Prior to the performance, each group will be given additional 5minutes to prepare the stage. After the lapse of 5 minutes, the time keeper will ring the bell one time, and will start recording or measuring the 30 minutes given to that group. Once the clock passes 25 minutes, the time keeper will ring the bell two times to alert the performing group. The performing group is advised to wrap up its performance after hearing that bell sound. Once the 30 minutes time has completely passed, a long sound will be played 3 times and the particular group must stop its performance. Therefore, it is imperative for the groups to use the allocated 30 minutes wisely and promptly.
4. Additional time will not be given for the additional stage arrangements, change of scenes, usage of background music and lighting. Thus, all participating groups are advised to avoid excessive stage arrangements and scene settings. If a group fails to complete its performance within the 30 minutes given, then 5 marks willbe deducted from theoverall average marks for each 5minutes interval taken. i.e.: Group X takes 36 minutes to complete its performance. The judging panel gives average marks of 77% to that group. Since the group took 6 minutes additionally, 10 marks will be deducted and the group X will be given 67%as its final mark. Attention: The time will be strictly measured or recorded; Time keeper’s decision is final in respect of time - measurement.
5. At the end of each performance, the time keeper will announce the time taken by the group to finish its performance. Following that, the judges will comment about the performance. Importantly, a judge will be selected randomly to pose one question about the story on which the performance was based or the performance itself. ONE minute will be given for a representative of the group to answer the question. Special marks will be given based on the quality of that answer (refer Annexure 2).
6. All participating groups are encouraged to use the background music, lighting, props and costumes that are necessary, when performing their respective dramas. These criteria will be greatly considered while giving marks for the creativity aspect (refer Annexure 2) Attention: The background music must not contain any dialogues or words. All groups must avoid to utilize sharp and/or dangerous weapons. Hazardous and flammable objects are strictly not allowed to be used during the performance.
7. All participating groups shall use their creative ideas and create their own script. The script, however, must be consistent with the authenticity and originality of the literature story. The participants are strictly advised not to copy and use the dialogues from the TV serials and cinematic movies. If a group uses excessive dialogues copied from such movies, then the group will be given very low marks for the literature and creativity aspects (refer Annexure 2). All participating groups are advised to send their script before the deadline to the Program Organizers in PDF and Document forms.
